Mustard Elena

The white mustard variety «ELENA» (Sinapis alba L.) is a mid-early diploid type distinguished by rapid regrowth in spring and after mowing, as well as high yield of both fodder mass and seeds. Plant height is 125–145 cm, leaves are light green, flowering is early, ensuring a short maturation period – from 85 to 95 days. The mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 6.5–8.0 g, while the average dry matter yield reaches 51.1 c/ha, which is above the regional standard average. The variety is drought-resistant and possesses good resistance to various pathogens: black leg, phoma, alternaria, downy mildew, and cylindrosporium.

Mustard «ELENA» is also valued as a cover crop. After potato harvesting, it can be sown as green fertilizer: decomposing biomass enriches the soil with organics, increasing humus content and improving soil structure. When sown in cultivated soil, it effectively suppresses weed development and contributes to soil health due to essential oils, which act as prevention against pests and fungal infections.

Key advantages of the variety include high content of erucic acid (12–16%) and glucosinolates in meal (3.5–4.8%), making it suitable for oilseed oil production and fodder purposes.
