Selchanka

The Selchanka melon belongs to mid-season varieties, with a maturity period from full germination to harvestable ripeness of 72-80 days. The fruits are large, weighing from 2.5 to 5 kg, averaging about 3.7 kg, and have an oval or elongated-oval shape. The fruit skin is colored orange-yellow and decorated with an effective surface netting, giving it an attractive appearance. The flesh is light yellow, medium-density, thick, medium-juicy, and sweet, with high and stable content of dry matter and sugars. The variety is characterized by good marketability: fruits maintain their qualities for 15 days after harvest. 3-4 marketable fruits form on one plant, ensuring high yield — with irrigation it reaches up to 7 kg per square meter. Selchanka is tolerant to powdery mildew and downy mildew, which increases plant disease resistance and reduces risks during cultivation. Agronomy of cultivation includes sowing seeds in March-April for seedlings or in May-June in open ground. Before sowing, seeds are recommended to be treated with a potassium permanganate solution and rinsed with clean water. Seedlings are transplanted at the stage of 3-4 true leaves after the threat of frost with a spacing of 100 by 100 cm. During growth, a single stem is formed, removing side shoots and leaving 2-3 fruits. Plant care consists of moderate watering, soil loosening, and fertilization, which contributes to obtaining a quality harvest.
