Melon Luna

The Luna melon variety belongs to the medium-maturing group, ripening within 75-90 days from germination to technical maturity. It features plants of average size with long vines that are recommended to be tied to trellises for ease of care. In southern regions, direct sowing in open ground is possible, while in northern areas, growing via seedlings is recommended, with sowing conducted at the end of April and transplanting at the end of May to early June. To form high-quality fruits, it is important to remove side shoots and pinch back vines, as well as reduce watering during the fruiting period to enhance fruit sweetness. Luna variety fruits have an oval or spherical shape with a smooth surface and a faintly defined netting. Their color ranges from lemon to yellow-orange, with a mass reaching from 0.7 to 4.5 kg. The rind is of medium thickness, flexible yet firm, protecting the juicy and dense flesh, which is distinguished by its white or light shade, grainy texture, and strong musky aroma. The seed chamber is small, and the flesh thickness can reach up to 8 cm. The fruits have excellent taste qualities, being sweet and juicy, which makes the melon particularly attractive to consumers. The Luna variety is noted for its hardiness and good transportability, allowing it to maintain fruit quality during transport and storage. Yield ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 kg per square meter. Fruits are resistant to cracking, further enhancing their shelf life. During prolonged storage, the melon may lose some taste qualities, so it is recommended to consume it fresh for maximum enjoyment of its aroma and sweetness.
