Alfalfa Victoria

Technical Profile of 'Victoria' Alfalfa

The 'Victoria' alfalfa variety is the result of scientific cooperation between Russian institutions (UrFANITs UrO RAN, ZSOOS) and international partners (Semko-Junior). It is a mid-season variety focused on achieving a stable volume of biomass with high nutritional parameters.

Plant Architecture and Vegetative Indices

The main parameter determining the productivity of this variety is the standing height of the stems during the flowering phase, which ranges from 80 to 100 cm. This optimal height facilitates efficient mechanized harvesting while maintaining high stand density. The technical solution lies in the balance between tillering and leafiness: due to intensive branching, 'Victoria' forms a thick canopy, which helps suppress weed growth in the field.

Agrotechnical Advantages

• Biological Resource: High winter hardiness, resulting from selection in the Ural region. The variety is adapted to sharp temperature fluctuations, which is critical for preventing crop thinning after overwintering.
• Regrowth Intensity: After each cut, the variety shows an energetic regeneration of vegetative mass, allowing for effective utilization of soil moisture throughout the season.
• Feed Value: Protein content and fiber digestibility are within the target ranges for alfalfa, enabling the production of high-quality hay and haylage for high-yield dairy cattle.

Realizing the full potential of 'Victoria' depends directly on adherence to sowing regulations. Given the genetically determined height, the variety requires monitoring of sowing density to ensure adequate nutrition for each individual plant, which prevents lodging and maintains a high concentration of nutrients in every ton of harvested yield.
