Alfalfa Zaikevicha

Ukrainian breeding excellence for professional forage production

The 'Zaykevycha' alfalfa variety is a hallmark of the M.I. Vavilov Poltava Institute of Agro-Industrial Production (UAAS). As a long-standing staple in Ukrainian forage crops, this variety has earned a reputation for reliability, consistently performing across various soil and climatic zones. It is the preferred choice for producers who value proven genetic stability over short-lived commercial novelties.

Agronomic resilience and disease resistance

The core strength of 'Zaykevycha' lies in its robust health profile. Field longevity is essential for alfalfa, and this variety excels by mitigating the risk of early stand thinning, which is often caused by common soil-borne and foliar pathogens:

• Pathogen Defense: High genetic resistance to Fusarium, Ascochyta, and Bacteriosis ensures that the crop maintains its density and productivity over multiple harvesting seasons.
• Growth habit: The plants reach a height of 70–90 cm, resulting in excellent leaf-to-stem ratios and superior dry matter yields.

Market positioning and utility

In the forage market, 'Zaykevycha' serves as a high-performance workhorse. It is specifically bred to meet the demands of intensive livestock operations that require steady supplies of high-protein hay and haylage. Its ability to regenerate quickly after cutting, combined with strong root architecture, makes it well-adapted to the volatile weather patterns typical of the region. This variety represents a strategic asset for agronomists seeking a stable, cost-effective solution for long-term forage production.
