NAKHOVDKA alfalfa is a variable alfalfa of a blue hybrid sortotype, developed by inter-specific hybridization using varieties Vela, Vega 87, Vertus, and Sin 7008. The plant is of medium height in spring with a semi-erect bush and green leaves; the central leaflet is of medium length and width. Flowers are predominantly very dark blue-violet, with a low frequency of mixed colors and virtually no cream, white, or yellow ones. Flowering starts early-medium; the stem is of medium length or long at full bloom.
The variety belongs to the hay-cutting type and is distinguished by high plasticity and resistance to various usage regimes. It maintains productive longevity in subsequent years even when cut three or four times during the vegetation period. NAKHOVDKA alfalfa possesses high winter hardiness and drought resistance above average, as well as resistance to lodging. The rate of regrowth in spring and after cuts is fast, which promotes effective recovery of the sward.
Dry matter yield in the Central region averages 55.4 centners/hectare, while in the Volga-Vyatsk region it is 58.1 centners/hectare, exceeding standard variety indicators. Seed yield ranges from 96 to 420 kg/hectare, averaging 256 kg/hectare. The variety is suitable for both single-species sowings and the creation of alfalfa-grass mixtures, ensuring high productivity and quality of fodder base.
