Lucerne of the variety Hope is a multi-year fodder crop of the legume family, widely used in agriculture due to its high nutritional value and productivity. This plant is characterized by a strong and deep root system, which contributes to improving soil structure, increasing its permeability, and accumulating humus. Lucerne Hope can remain productive on the same plot for 10 to 20 years or more, making it a cost-effective choice for long-term use in plantings.
The nutritional value of lucerne is due to its high protein content, which is comparable in quality to animal protein, as well as a variety of amino acids, vitamins (A, D, E, B group) and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen). Green mass and hay of lucerne are rich in nutrients, making it indispensable in livestock farming. The yield of green mass reaches 45-75 tons per hectare, while hay yields 8-15 tons, with the plant capable of producing up to 4-5 cuttings per growing season. Lucerne seeds are harvested in the second year of cultivation with a yield of 500-900 kg per hectare.
In addition to its fodder use, lucerne Hope is also utilized in other areas: it is an excellent honey plant and is used for decorative purposes. Due to its ability to reduce harmful cholesterol levels, lucerne sprouts find application in medicine and gastronomy. In agrotechnology, lucerne serves as an effective green manure, enriching soil with nitrogen and helping to clear fields of weeds. The seeding rate for pure plantings is 15-20 kg per hectare, while in mixtures it is 6-8 kg per hectare, ensuring optimal growth and high productivity of the crop.
