Lonicera 'Chayka' is a vigorous shrub with a wide, rounded, dense crown and straight, short branches of a pale green shade. The leaves are large, light green, oblong-oval, flat plates. The fruits have a characteristic gloss due to a strong waxy coating: they are blue-blue, oblong-oval with a small ring at the top, medium-sized, and weigh about 0.87 g. The fruit surface is smooth, the skin is thin, the flesh is tender, the taste is sour-sweet with a slight aroma.
The variety is distinguished by high yield – up to 4 kg from one adult bush – and an early harvest period (the first fruits appear as early as early May). It is resistant to winter cold, and also has average immunity to diseases and pests. Thanks to these properties, 'Chayka' is easily grown even with minimal care requirements.
The fruits are rich in vitamins of groups B, A, C, P and micro- and macro-elements, which makes them a valuable product both for human nutrition and for feeding birds. Bushes can be used for decorative purposes thanks to their dense crown and bright berry coloration.
