Daylily MOTH EYED DAYLILY

Elegance in Every Petal: The "Motylek" Daylily

Developed by the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, this daylily is a prime example of southern breeding successfully adapted to colder climates. Its main distinction is a unique flower shape that blends the traits of double blooms with the delicate, airy structure of spider-type lilies. Unlike many larger hybrids, "Motylek" excels in detail rather than pure size; with a 7 cm flower diameter, it creates a dense, lace-like bloom display.

Cultivation and Resilience

• Climate Hardiness: With frost resistance down to -30°C, this hybrid performs well in most regions without the need for complex winter protection.
• Blooming Period: The flexible blooming window (45–60 days) combined with remontant (repeat-blooming) properties makes it a reliable asset for landscape design.
• Light Requirements: To fully reveal its rich palette—ranging from soft white to vibrant orange and red—the variety requires full exposure to sunlight.

Why choose this variety?

"Motylek" is an ideal choice for collectors who value compact yet striking plants. Its ability to repeat-bloom sets it apart from single-bloom analogs, maintaining garden aesthetics throughout the season. However, the variety is sensitive to light levels; in deep shade, the petals lose their color saturation and the plant tends to stretch, making it unsuitable for planting under dense tree canopies. It is an excellent selection for the foreground of mixed borders or as a vibrant focal point against evergreen backdrops.
