Description Mavka
Mavka is a medium-maturing grain variety of bean with a vegetation period from 85 to 105 days. The plant is a semi-woody indeterminate bush reaching 70-80 cm in height with a trailing apex. Pods are light-yellow, slightly curved, containing 4 to 6 white oval seeds with barely noticeable veining. The bush is well-branched, resistant to lodging and shattering, making the variety suitable for mechanical harvesting. Yield reaches 1.8–2 kg per square meter of planting, and the seeds have a rich, sweet flavor, good cooking quality, and a buttery texture, making them ideal for various processing methods. Mavka prefers fertile and light soil mixes, does not tolerate shallow groundwater, and requires warm planting conditions — optimal temperature not lower than +12°C. Seeds should be kept in a damp cloth before sowing to avoid premature emergence of cotyledons. The planting scheme for bush varieties is 20x30 cm, and seed depth depends on soil structure, typically varying from 5 to 8 cm. For bean cultivation, rows are usually formed in three to four rows, with seeds sown in a checkerboard pattern. The Mavka variety has high disease resistance and tolerates short-term drought, allowing it to be grown almost anywhere. Beans are a valuable source of easily digestible protein, comparable in nutritional value to fish and meat, and also contain significant amounts of iron, which helps improve immunity and the formation of red blood cells. Additionally, beans act as a green manure, enriching soil with nitrogen through the activity of rhizobial bacteria, thereby enhancing soil fertility.
