Jasperinas

Jasperinas lettuce is a new mid-late maturing head lettuce variety of the Iceberg type, developed by the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan. The plant forms a large, round head with a dense structure and weight up to 700 grams. The lettuce leaves have a light green hue, are crisp and juicy, and have a delicate, pleasant taste. Due to its attractive appearance and excellent flavor, Jasperinas lettuce is widely used fresh and for processing in culinary applications. This variety is highly resistant to stress during growth, due to its slower growth rate compared to other Iceberg varieties. It has a strong root system and robust leaf canopy, enabling vigorous development even under adverse conditions. Jasperinas is resistant to diseases such as powdery mildew, downy mildew, necrosis, and leaf spot, as well as infestations by aphids and root aphids. Additionally, it demonstrates good resistance to sunscald and mechanical damage. Jasperinas lettuce can be grown in open fields and greenhouses from early spring to autumn, enabling year-round production. The vegetative period ranges from 60 to 80 days. The plant responds positively to fertilization and regular watering, does not produce flower stalks, which contributes to stable yield formation. The potential yield reaches 4–4.5 kg per square meter. Jasperinas lettuce has good transportability and shelf life, making it popular in fresh markets.
