Lettuce Jasperinas

Stability and Field Performance

When dealing with 'Iceberg' lettuce, the main challenge is always uniform maturity and disease pressure. 'Jasperinas' from Rijk Zwaan handles these issues exceptionally well. This is one of those hybrids that compensates for minor gaps in crop management, making field operations much smoother.

Resilience and Protection

The biggest benefit during the growing cycle is reduced reliance on heavy fungicide applications. The genetic resistance to downy mildew and root aphids performs exactly as advertised. You can effectively manage the risks of brown spot outbreaks that often compromise yields in other varieties: 'Jasperinas' stands strong even under pressure.

Crop Specs

• Visual appeal: A vibrant light green color that retail buyers look for; it maintains that 'fresh-cut' appearance perfectly.
• Sizing: Heads are large, dense, and well-structured, consistent across the field.
• Maturity: The medium-late maturity window allows for effective scheduling of staggered harvests without the risk of over-maturing at the end of the cycle.

Proper irrigation management is the key to maximizing this hybrid's potential. Due to the dense head and heavy rosette, moisture stress shows up quickly in leaf quality, so consistency is mandatory. When provided with a balanced feeding and watering regimen, 'Jasperinas' yields a high percentage of marketable product per hectare. For any commercial operation, this translates into predictable margins and minimal waste during the packing process.
