Lettuce BURU

Stability and Harvest Purity: The Buru Variety Advantage

For commercial farms aiming to reduce pesticide input, the "Buru" butterhead lettuce variety offers a highly predictable performance. Developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production (originators V.A. Ludilov and M.I. Ivanova), this variety is engineered to produce medium-sized heads with a consistent, buttery texture.

Why Professionals Prefer Buru

• Genetic Resistance: One of the strongest attributes of Buru is its resilience against lettuce downy mildew and lettuce mosaic virus. This genetic defense profile significantly lowers crop loss risks in open-field conditions.
• Marketability: The variety forms a dense yet uniform rosette, which simplifies harvest logistics, packing, and sorting processes before the product reaches the shelves.
• Culinary Profile: Its buttery, mild-tasting leaves are highly prized in both retail and the HoReCa sector for their clean, crisp texture without bitterness.

Buru is ideal for growers seeking a balance between high agricultural standards and disease management. The variety is specifically well-adapted to its climate of origin, ensuring stable performance where imported hybrids might struggle. It is a reliable tool for conveyor production systems, allowing for efficient harvest scheduling.

While highly robust, the variety does require careful management regarding harvest timing. Like many butterhead varieties, Buru should be harvested exactly when it reaches maturity; delaying the harvest can compromise the internal density of the head. For those who manage their harvest window effectively, Buru provides an excellent yield of premium-quality greens.
