Growing «Flirt» Cauliflower: Practical Field Insights

For growers using the «Flirt» hybrid from the French breeder Clause, consistency is the key metric. Designed for the summer-autumn growing season, this hybrid offers a clear harvesting window of 70–80 days after transplanting. It functions as a reliable tool in the field, delivering predictable results with minimal maintenance overhead.

Vegetative Features and Management

The main advantage of «Flirt» is its self-covering ability. The plant possesses vigorous foliage that protects the curd from direct sunlight, ensuring the heads remain snowy white without the need for manual leaf tying. With a head weight ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 kg, it meets the requirements of most commercial retail chains.

• Moisture Management: As a high-yielding hybrid, it is sensitive to water stress. Drip irrigation is highly recommended to reach the upper end of the weight spectrum.
• Nutrient Requirements: It responds well to split applications of nitrogen during the leaf rosette stage, followed by potassium-heavy feeding during the curd formation phase.
• Harvesting: The heads are uniform and dense, making them easy to pack and transport without damage.

The genetics provided by Clause ensure that the plants are resilient against temperature fluctuations. For the grower, this means a lower risk of crop loss during heatwaves. «Flirt» represents a professional balance between ease of cultivation and high-quality marketable yield, ideal for those who value efficiency and consistent genetics.
