Lettuce Zoltan

The Czech seed company Semo has established a reputation for developing plant varieties that bridge the gap between professional requirements and reliable crop performance. The 'Zoltan' lettuce variety is a prime example of their 'Batavia' type selection, known for its consistent growth patterns and market appeal.

Genetic Reliability and Market Position

Developed by Semo A.S., 'Zoltan' is designed for growers who prioritize consistency. By selecting this variety, farmers benefit from years of rigorous Czech breeding aimed at optimizing both yield and presentation. Its light-green, vibrant leaves and compact, well-structured rosette make it a top choice for fresh produce markets.

Key Agronomic Strengths

• Disease Resistance: The variety carries crucial resistance to Downy Mildew and Lettuce Mosaic Virus. This inherent resilience is vital for reducing reliance on protective chemical applications, supporting a more sustainable production model.
• Batavia Characteristics: 'Zoltan' is celebrated for its crisp, refreshing texture. As a mid-season variety, it reaches harvestable maturity efficiently, offering excellent leaf quality that withstands handling and transport well.
• Professional Utility: The mid-range head mass makes it suitable for diverse sales channels, from wholesale bulk to retail packaging, providing flexibility for the end-user.

Choosing genetics from the original breeder, Semo S.R.O., ensures that the seed stock maintains its intended vigor. 'Zoltan' remains a staple for many, not due to aggressive marketing, but because it consistently delivers in the field. It is a robust, no-nonsense variety that rewards proper irrigation and management with high-quality, uniform produce.
