Smooth brome STAVROPOLSKY 31

Operating Working with Stavropolsky 31 Brome

When selecting perennial grasses for long-term pasture or hay production, understanding how the crop behaves in real-world field conditions is crucial. The «Stavropolsky 31» variety from SKFNAC is, first and foremost, a reliable tool for those prioritizing a stable forage base in unpredictable climate conditions.

Practical Cultivation and Adaptability

The main advantage of this variety is its resilience. Unlike delicate imported mixtures, this brome from SKFNAC demonstrates consistent establishment across various soil types. For the agronomist, this means no need for annual reseeding: by the second year, the crop effectively outcompetes weeds, creating a dense, healthy sod.

• Regrowth Rate: After the first cut, the stand recovers in a predictable manner. With a managed irrigation system, you can count on a productive second cut.
• Winter Hardiness: Over years of observation in regions with harsh temperature fluctuations, the variety has shown minimal loss, which is essential for any perennial crop.
• Forage Quality: Livestock find it highly palatable, and the protein content remains sufficient to reduce reliance on purchased concentrates.

Crop Maintenance

Stavropolsky 31 is low-maintenance, but it does require strategic nitrogen application after cutting to sustain high yields over a 5–7 year period. During harvest, timing is everything—hitting the flowering stage is critical to prevent the stems from becoming too fibrous, which would otherwise decrease the nutritional value of the hay. The stand itself is highly forgiving; if thinning occurs, it responds exceptionally well to overseeding with legumes.

Ultimately, choosing seeds from the North Caucasian Federal Scientific Agrarian Center is a rational decision for operations seeking a balance between seed cost and total livestock efficiency.
