UFA 7

UFA 7 is a blue lucerne (Medicago sativa L. subsp. sativa) variety intended for cultivation in cold and temperate climatic zones. The plant is characterized by a medium-early maturity period and a multi-year life cycle lasting 4 years or more. The bushes have a semi-erect or sprawling form, with stems reaching 110-120 cm in height; the leaflets are inverted-ovate, soft, and dark green. Flowers range in color from violet to light blue, while seeds are kidney-shaped and yellow-green in color, with a weight of approximately 1.9-2.0 g per 1000 seeds. The variety is distinguished by high yields of fodder mass and seeds. In the Central-Black Earth region, the average yield of dry matter is about 84.0 c/ha, in the North Caucasian region — 91.3 c/ha, and in the Middle Volga region — 73.4 c/ha. Maximum yield indicators were achieved in various regions and exceeded standards by 10-55 c/ha. The vegetative period from the beginning of growth to the first cut is 66-81 days, and to economic seed maturity — 115-154 days. In spring and after cuts, the plant grows back quickly and well, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality fodder. UFA 7 is used for producing hay, silage, and haylage, making it a versatile crop for fodder production. The variety has moderate resistance to root rots and brown blotch, but its resistance to verticillium wilt is low. Due to its agronomic characteristics and adaptation to various regions, this variety is a reliable choice for farmers seeking high yields of fodder mass in cold and temperate climatic conditions.
