Smooth brome HAKARI

Field Performance: Hakari Brome

When you are establishing a pasture intended to last for 5–10 years, you need a cultivar that you can trust. It is not the type of grass that thins out after a couple of seasons; it provides a dense, reliable sward that holds up well against both livestock pressure and seasonal stress.

Practical Operation

The first thing to note after seeding is the consistency of establishment. Hakari develops a vigorous root system, which is why it performs so well in dry spells. While other grasses may go dormant or yellow under heat stress, this brome stays green and productive, which is crucial for maintaining livestock condition during the critical summer months.

Management and Economics

• Longevity: It truly meets the 5–10 year lifespan expectation, provided you manage your rotational grazing schedule correctly.
• Palatability: Livestock graze it eagerly. Even as it reaches the boot stage, it doesn't develop excessive stemminess, provided you keep the grass managed.
• Maintenance: It is low-maintenance in the truest sense. Once established, your inputs are primarily limited to basic fertilization and effective grazing management. There is no complicated "troubleshooting" required—just sound agricultural practice.

If you are looking for a long-term perennial that won't fail after a tough winter, Hakari is a straightforward, reliable choice. It is forgiving of minor management mistakes, regrows quickly after grazing, and provides consistent high-quality forage without the need for constant resowing.
