Alfalfa Olga

Stable alfalfa yield with minimal operational costs

For an owner, selecting a seed variety is a decision about predictability and hectare-based performance. The 'Olga' variety, developed by the Institute of Agriculture of the NAAS, serves as a reliable asset for intensive grassland management. With a plant height of 80–100 cm, the crop maintains optimal density, which is crucial for disc or rotary mower performance: the biomass is distributed evenly, preventing mechanism jamming.

Operational Performance

• Mowing Efficiency: The 80–100 cm height allows for forage harvesting within ideal agronomic windows. The variety is resistant to lodging, which reduces harvesting losses and eliminates the need for frequent cutting height adjustments on the mower.
• Regrowth Intensity: 'Olga' demonstrates rapid recovery after the first and second cuts. This simplifies work logistics: operators do not face downtime waiting for slow regrowth, and field scheduling becomes much more reliable.
• Maintenance Requirements: High disease resistance minimizes the need for fungicide treatments, representing a direct saving on fuel, labor, and chemical inputs while extending the longevity of the stand.

During the harvest, 'Olga' shows an excellent response to management. With the correct seeding rate, it forms a thick stand that effectively covers the soil surface, suppressing weed growth and reducing the need for herbicide application during the first years of operation.

For farm owners, this variety is an investment in a long-term feed base. Minimal downtime during mowing, high regeneration speed, and consistent hay quality make 'Olga' a rational choice for those who value efficiency in business processes and long-term land management.
