Hippeastrum BABY SUMMER

Genetic Potential

The 'Babye Leto' hippeastrum is a product of specialized breeding by the Federal Research Centre of Subtropical Science. This variety stands out for its robust growth habit and ability to produce high-quality blooms under southern climate conditions, making it a reliable choice for commercial nursery production.

Key Specifications for Growers

With a bulb size of 18–20 cm in diameter, this variety provides the metabolic reserves necessary for rapid and vigorous growth. The resulting flower diameter of 18–22 cm places it in the top tier of ornamental value, essential for the premium cut-flower and pot-plant market.

Cultivation and Practical Application

• Outdoor Cultivation: Best suited for summer planting in warm regions. Requires soil with excellent drainage and protection from scorching midday heat to maintain the integrity of the large flower head.
• Forcing Strategies: The predictable dormancy cycle allows producers to schedule bloom periods with high accuracy. The key is strict temperature control during the storage phase.
• Landscaping: Ideal for statement plantings in terrace containers or sheltered patio areas where the large-scale inflorescence can be appreciated at close range.

For best results, practice shallow planting: ensure at least one-third of the bulb remains above the substrate level. This technique promotes better bulb health and significantly reduces the risk of basal rot in humid environments.
