Hippeastrum Christmas

A Georgian touch for indoor collections

The 'Christmas' (Rozhdestvo) Hippeastrum is a distinct result of the breeding program at the FSBSI Federal Research Centre 'Subtropical Scientific Centre of the RAS'. Unlike mass-produced Dutch hybrids, this variety is tailored for specific climatic adaptations, resulting in a plant with robust growth energy and a highly predictable flowering cycle.

Dimensions and visual profile

The primary advantage of this cultivar is the harmony between compactness and visual impact. With a stalk height of 50-60 cm, it does not dominate the space, fitting perfectly on standard windowsills. However, its true hallmark is the bloom size: 18-22 cm in diameter. These proportions turn 'Christmas' into an instant centerpiece, as the massive, cup-shaped flowers provide a striking contrast to the relatively modest stem height.

Pros and considerations

• Pros: Exceptional ornamental quality, excellent adaptability to indoor environments, and a reliable response to light cycles. It is an ideal choice for enthusiasts who demand high-quality blooms without complex post-flowering maintenance.
• Considerations: Due to the sheer size of the flowers, ensuring pot stability is essential. Additionally, the stalk tends to lean toward the light source, so regular rotation of the container is recommended to maintain an upright, aesthetic habit.

'Christmas' is an optimal choice for those who value a refined, medium-stature plant that integrates seamlessly into a home interior while still delivering the dramatic impact of large-scale blooms. It thrives in indoor settings when standard watering regimes and winter dormancy periods are observed.
