Hippeastrum PRINCE MICHAEL

Subtropical Breeding: Hippeastrum 'Knyaz Mikhail'

Against the backdrop of common European and Dutch breeding standards, the Georgian school of floriculture offers a distinctive genetic asset. The hybrid 'Knyaz Mikhail', developed by researchers at the Federal Research Center for Subtropical Scientific Center, is the result of focused work on adapting southern bulbous plants to conditions where disease resistance is the primary driver of viability.

The hallmark of this variety is its genetic resistance to Stagonospora curtisii (red blotch). This makes the hybrid a preferred choice for growers who struggle with fungal infections in bulbs caused by high humidity or moisture fluctuations. Unlike many mass-market imported hybrids, 'Knyaz Mikhail' maintains consistent performance across varying environments.

Cultivation and Physical Parameters

• Plant Height: 70-80 cm, offering a majestic and elegant presence for indoor floral displays.
• Adaptability: The hybrid performs well both as an indoor ornamental plant and in outdoor garden beds during the summer months.
• Care Requirements: Requires a standard Hippeastrum cultivation cycle, including a distinct dormancy period and excellent soil drainage.

‘Knyaz Mikhail’ occupies a niche as a professional-grade selection, blending aesthetic appeal with robust plant health. It is chosen by enthusiasts who prioritize predictable flowering cycles and high natural immunity. Moving the bulbs to an open garden setting during the summer allows the bulb to accumulate maximum nutritional reserves, ensuring strong re-blooming potential when handled with proper winter storage techniques.
