Tulip Bastogne

Technical Overview of Tulip Bastogne

The 'Bastogne' tulip, belonging to the Triumph class, is engineered for consistency in professional cut-flower production. Its genetic makeup provides a robust stem structure and a classic goblet-shaped bloom, making it a reliable choice for both commercial forcing and landscape applications.

Phytosanitary Resistance

The primary advantage of the Bastogne variety lies in its defensive profile against common fungal pathogens. Field testing demonstrates high tolerance to key diseases that typically compromise bulb health:

• Alternaria and Phoma: The variety exhibits strong leaf tissue resistance, ensuring efficient photosynthesis throughout the growing cycle.
• Sclerotinia and Cylindrosporium: Bastogne shows high resilience against root and basal rot, which is critical when managing soil-borne pathogens in high-density planting conditions.

This inherent biological resistance translates into lower input costs by reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications.

Developmental Morphology

As a mid-season bloomer, Bastogne occupies a strategic timing window in the horticultural cycle. Its high stem height ensures excellent uniformity for harvesting, while the deep red pigment of the petals shows strong resistance to solar bleaching. The rigid petal structure provides superior shelf life and durability during transport, maintaining its high-quality aesthetic for longer periods post-harvest.
