Hazelnut Catalan

Practical Application of 'Catalonian' Hazelnut

When selecting planting material for either private or industrial orchards, growers look for a balance between yield consistency and maintenance ease. The 'Catalonian' (Katalonskyi) variety, supplied by the Khmelnytskyi Universal Company, is favored for its vigorous growth habits and reliability in the Ukrainian climate. It represents a practical choice for producers looking to maximize productivity per hectare.

Orchard Management and Harvest

For commercial operators, the 'Catalonian' variety offers several strategic advantages:

• Uniformity: The rounded nuts mature consistently, which is essential for growers employing mechanized harvesting equipment.
• Orchard Geometry: The growth habit of the bushes allows for easy pruning and shaping, facilitating the passage of machinery through rows for maintenance and spraying.
• Market Value: High kernel filling percentages and visual quality make these nuts highly competitive for processors and the retail confectionery market.

Successful cultivation relies on understanding the specific nutritional needs of the variety during the fruit-set stage. To achieve optimal yields, the Khmelnytskyi Universal Company recommends integrating this variety with compatible pollinizers and ensuring consistent moisture levels through irrigation. This approach helps in mitigating seasonal climate risks and ensures that the orchard remains a productive asset for the farm for many years.
