Description

Pavlenko's Gift hazelnut is a medium-maturing variety developed by the Ukrainian Institute of Agrosommelierics named after G.M. Vysotsky under the leadership of breeder A.F. Pavlenko. This variety is characterized by high yield stability and excellent cold resistance, withstanding temperatures down to -30°C. Fruit production begins as early as the third year after planting, and the nut ripening period falls at the end of August to the beginning of September, making it suitable for commercial cultivation in the northern forest-steppe zone of Ukraine.

Pavlenko's Gift nuts have a cylindrical, slightly elongated shape with a pointed apex and a thin, glossy shell of deep brown color. The weight of a single nut is approximately 2-3 grams, and the kernel yield reaches 49%. The kernel is light cream-colored, with a high oil content (67%) and protein, possessing a pleasant sweet taste and a distinctive aroma of wild forest hazelnuts. These qualities make this hazelnut versatile: it can be consumed fresh, used in confectionery production, or for decorative purposes.

The plants of this variety are vigorous, produce little suckering, and are well-suited for training in a trunk form, which significantly increases yield up to 10 kg of dry nuts per bush. Nuts form in clusters of 3-6 pieces, and the dense husk is slightly longer than the nuts themselves. For successful fruiting, it is recommended to plant at least two bushes, and this variety also serves well as a pollinator for other hazelnut and woody hawthorn varieties.
