Description White Chaush
White Chaush — an old table grape variety belonging to the eco-geographical group of the Black Sea basin. It is widely cultivated in Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, and southern regions of Russia, including Crimea. The vines of this variety are vigorous, with large, deeply lobed, round-shaped leaves having a blistered surface covered with dense pubescence. The flower is functionally female, and the shoots ripen well, contributing to high yields.

The clusters of White Chaush are large or medium-sized, cylindrical-conical or wing-shaped, with varying density. The berries are oval or egg-shaped, yellow-green, with thin skins that easily split. On the sunny side, berries may have a brownish tint or a slight waxy bloom. The flesh is juicy and succulent, with a pleasant fresh flavor. The sugar content of the juice reaches 15-16%, acidity — 7-8 g/l. Yield varies widely, from 30 to 200 centners per hectare.

The variety is highly drought-resistant but sensitive to excess moisture and requires protection from frost, as it has low winter hardiness. White Chaush is susceptible to fungal diseases such as mildew, oidium, and gray rot, as well as grapevine leafroller. The grapes are primarily used for fresh consumption, as well as for making raisins and compotes.
