Beppo pumpkin is an early-maturing hybrid of oilseed pumpkin with a vegetation period of 107 to 120 days. This variety is characterized by high productivity, reaching 0.6 to 1.0 tons of dry seeds per hectare under production conditions in Ukraine. Fruit mass ranges from 8 to 12 kg, and the thousand seed mass is 150 to 280 g, indicating large fruit size and high seed quality.
One of the key features of the Beppo hybrid is the high oil content in the seeds — 37 to 44% — which ensures a significant oil yield (approximately 1 liter per 2.4 kg of seeds). Thanks to this, the variety is widely used in both intensive and organic cultivation technologies across various regions of Ukraine, including Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Kyiv, and Kharkiv regions. The hybrid demonstrates excellent drought and disease resistance, including resistance to powdery mildew and rot, which contributes to stable high yields.
Beppo is recommended for planting at a rate of 18–20 thousand seeds per hectare and is suitable for oil production. Its seeds are large (19–20 mm), which facilitates processing and handling. Unlike decorative pumpkins, which contain the bitter substance cucurbitacin and are used exclusively for decorative purposes, Beppo is a fully viable oilseed variety suitable for food and industrial use.
