Smaragd

Emerald is a medium-maturity esparsette variety that is characterized by a high tendency to flowering already in the first year of life. Plants reach a high growth and maintain an upright habitus with moderate branching. Medium-thick stems lack anthocyanin coloring and pubescence, while leaves are long, green, and lanceolate in shape.

Inflorescences of Emerald are of medium length and cylindrical shape; the flower is light pink with uneven coloring. Pods of medium size have short teeth. The variety is characterized by high dryness resistance and winter hardiness, is resistant to breaking, and has a low tendency to diseases.

Average yield of dry matter is 52.5–96.0 centners/hectare in the forest-steppe zone and 78.6–130.0 centners/hectare in the steppe. The foliage of the plant ranges from 46.5–48.3%, while crude protein content is 16.9%. Emerald is recommended for cultivation in soil-climatic zones of the forest-steppe and steppe.
