The Medino variety of alfalfa is the result of repeated mass selection from hybrid seeds and belongs to the sandy species of the Ukrainian ecological group. Plants reach a height of 70-80 cm, have a branched or semi-permanent bush with stems of medium thickness containing 5-8 internode shoots; the stems are hollow and stiff, and the leaves are gray-green, compound, and imparipinnate. Flowers range in color from pale to bright orange, succulents have a spindle shape with a narrow, pointed brush at the top; pods are small, bean-shaped, greenish-brown.
"Medino" is characterized by moderate growth in early spring, which intensifies during budding. This is a single-crop variety, but under sufficient soil moisture, it can produce a second crop. After the first mowing, shoots bloom within 30–50 days. The variety is drought resistant above average level, tolerates powdery mildew well and is rarely affected by diseases.
The productivity of green mass is 40-45 t/ha, hay harvest is 8.5-10.5 t/ha, seed yield at 14% humidity - 0.95-1.0 t/ha. Recommended wide-row uncovered planting of 50–60 kg/ha or rowed undercovering – 80–100 kg/ha. "Medino" is widely distributed throughout all regions of Ukraine and suitable for cultivation in forest steppe and polycyclic zones, as well as in chernozem and easily loamy carbonate soils.
