Description Adam
Adama esparcet – a perennial herbaceous plant of the legume family, 30 to 80 cm in height, with a straight stem and branched upper part. The root system is taproot, reaching a depth of 2–3 cm upon sowing, and can develop up to 2.7 m in maturity. The pink-purple flowers form racemes up to 20 cm long and live for 10–12 hours; they open from the second year of life and flowering lasts from early summer to mid-July, covering about thirty days.

The Adam variety is distinguished by high honey-producing capacity: under favorable conditions, one hectare can yield from 100 to 400 kg of honey. Flowers begin to exude nectar at 22–25 °C, making the plant especially valuable for beekeeping. The honey is transparent, light amber, rich in proteins, carbohydrates, ascorbic acid, and carotene, as well as enzymes that preserve its freshness.

Esparcet Adam is widely used as a forage crop due to its high protein content in pods (seeds) and residues after mowing. It is drought-resistant, frost-hardy, and capable of restoring soil structure, acting as a phyto-meliorant. For optimal growth, sowing without a cover crop is recommended on slopes and weak soils, while in crop rotation – with a light cover crop (barley, oats). The sowing rate is 50–60 kg/ha for row sowing and 20–30 kg/ha for wide-row sowing. At planting, depth should be 2–3 cm in heavy soils and 3–4 cm in medium and light soils, and preliminary liming increases nitrogen uptake.

The Adam variety is also valued as an ornamental plant: its bright pink-purple flowers create a picturesque view on meadows and glades. Due to resistance to diseases and pests, as well as the ability to withstand fluctuations in temperature and humidity, it is suitable for cultivation in the central strip of Russia and Ukraine, where regular watering, fertilization, and good drainage are required.
