Sandy 22 is a versatile perennial esparcet distinguished by its high yield, both in terms of hay (up to 8 t/ha) and green mass (up to 30 t/ha). The variety is characterized by good drought resistance and excellent winter hardiness, making it suitable for cultivation on sandy, loamy, and even eroded soils. Medium-sized seeds are sown at a rate of 80–100 kg/ha.
The plant reaches a height of about one meter and possesses a deep root system capable of absorbing moisture from layers more than one meter deep. This ensures resilience to drought and frost, and allows its use as cover for slopes and sandy lands. Sandy 22 is an excellent nectar-producing crop: flowering begins in the second year and continues from early summer until early July. Each flower lives only 10–12 hours, yet one hectare can collect up to 6 kg of honey per day.
The fodder part of the plant is rich in carbohydrates, proteins, fiber, carotene, and ascorbic acid. These nutrients help boost animal immunity and aid in fighting various diseases. Due to its versatility as a fodder crop, Sandy 22 is suitable for all types of domestic and agricultural livestock, providing a stable food source even on less fertile plots.
