Blackcurrant variety POLBEN, also known as Ben Hope, is a high-yielding medium-early variety developed in Scotland. Berries ripen from late June to the second decade of July. The bushes of this variety are vigorous, compact, and medium-sized, reaching a height of about 1.0-1.2 meters. Shoots are straight and of medium thickness, which ensures ease of care and harvesting.
POLBEN berries are large, round, dark blue-black, and glossy. The average berry weight ranges from 1.8 to 3.7 grams. The skin is firm, elastic, and tough, with a dry detachment, which contributes to good fruit transportability. The flesh is dense, juicy, with a pleasant sour-sweet taste and moderate aroma. Berries ripen uniformly, which is especially important for mechanized harvesting. The variety is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for freezing and processing into high-quality products such as juices, jellies, and wine materials.
POLBEN is characterized by high winter hardiness, resistance to major diseases and pests, and drought tolerance. It grows well on various soil types and is adapted to different climatic conditions, including developed blackcurrant-growing zones in Ukraine. Due to these qualities, the variety is widely used both in commercial and amateur gardening, ensuring a stable and high-quality yield.
