Blackcurrant variety Anniversary Copany was developed by breeders K. Copany and V. Copany at the Institute of Horticulture of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1983. The bushes of this variety are tall, semi-spreading, reaching a height of 1 to 1.5 meters, with straight, strong shoots that do not break even under heavy yields. Berries are medium-sized, weighing 3-4 grams, oval-round in shape, black in color with elastic and tough skin. The flesh is juicy, aromatic, dense, and brown. The peduncle detaches dry, facilitating harvest.
The variety is characterized by stable and high yield — on average, about 6 kilograms of berries are harvested per bush. The berries have high flavor qualities, confirmed by a taste evaluation of 4.5 out of 5. Anniversary Copany possesses comprehensive oligogenic resistance to diseases and pests of fruit shrubs, as well as high winter hardiness and drought tolerance. Due to these characteristics, the variety is suitable for intensive cultivation, mechanical harvesting, and technological processing.
Moreover, the variety is versatile and low-maintenance: it is not afraid of frost or drought. The leaves remain on the branches for a long time, which is especially valuable for those who practice phytotherapy, as they can be used to make excellent tea. Anniversary Copany is early-bearing — it yields a high harvest within 1-2 years after planting, and by the third year, the yield can reach 4-5 kilograms. Although it has moderate resistance to pests, it is recommended to treat the bushes with specialized agents in early spring to protect against pests such as rust and bud mite.
