Currant NORA

Working with the Nora Blackcurrant Variety

When selecting varieties for commercial plantations, resistance to disease and harvest predictability are the decisive factors. The Nora blackcurrant, developed by Fgbun Hfits Dvo Ran, has proven itself as a reliable asset for growers who prioritize low-maintenance crops. Its high resistance to powdery mildew significantly reduces the need for intensive fungicide applications, which is a major advantage for both farm budgets and environmental sustainability.

Orchard Management and Growth Traits

The bush has a medium-spreading architecture, which greatly simplifies maintenance. It allows for easier access when performing manual pruning or operating equipment between the rows. With a maturation period of 55–65 days after bud burst, Nora falls into the late-season category. This timing provides a strategic advantage, allowing farmers to capture the market later in the season when early varieties are already sold out.

• Disease Management: Strong innate immunity to powdery mildew lowers production costs and labor intensity.
• Harvesting: The black berries maintain excellent post-harvest quality and transportability, crucial for commercial distribution.
• Maintenance: The medium-spreading habit is convenient for both manual pruning and mechanical orchard care.

Originating from the Fgbun Hfits Dvo Ran breeding program and maintained under the standards of Sempra Praha a.s., this variety offers consistent genetic quality. While Nora is resilient, it performs best under standard high-quality agricultural practices—consistent hydration and balanced nutrition during the fruit-set period are key to achieving maximum potential. It is an ideal choice for growers who value consistent results, long-term plantation health, and ease of harvest.
