The black currant variety Capel was bred by breeders of the M. A. Lisavenko Research Institute of Breeding of Agricultural Crops, taking into account the specifics of the Siberian climate and intended for cultivation in the Western Siberian region. The bushes of this variety are tall, vigorous, and dense, becoming semi-spreading under fruit load. Capel berries have an original teardrop shape with a "nose", they are uniform, medium-sized, with a mass of about 1.2-1.4 grams. The berry skin is dense, medium-thick, elastic and shiny, which ensures good preservation and high transportability of fruits. The flesh is juicy, aromatic, with a small number of seeds, with a sour-sweet and pleasant taste, confirmed by a tasting score of about 4.4-4.6 points. Capel black currant is characterized by high winter hardiness, resistance to late frosts and drought, which makes it reliable for cultivation in severe climatic conditions. The variety has high self-fertility and stable yield - 4-5 kg of berries can be harvested from one bush, and up to 82 centners per hectare. Berries easily detach from the bush with a dry pull, which facilitates harvesting and reduces losses. In addition, the variety is resistant to berry drop and is not affected by mites, which improves the quality and commercial appearance of fruits. Capel is universal in use due to its taste qualities and good preservation. Berries are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing, including freezing and making various products. High transportability and resistance to mechanical damage make this variety attractive for commercial cultivation and marketing. Thus, black currant Capel combines excellent agronomic characteristics, high berry quality and adaptation to regional climatic conditions.
