Plant – perennial slender-bearded wheatgrass Agropyron desertorum (Fisch. ex Link) Schult., variety "Rostovsky 10" (code 4100433). The variety was registered in 1954 and has since been widely used as a pasture plant, thanks to its drought resistance, winter hardiness, and salt tolerance. It features a dense upright bush, moderate stem density, which are slightly hairy, and form knee-like nodes at the base. The leaves have sparse hairiness, no waxy coating, and a short, blunt ligule.
The crystalline structure of the spike is characterized by loose medium structure, non-caryopsoid shape, and attachment to the stem. The glumes have a wedge shape and a smooth surface. Internal quality indicators – crude protein content in dry matter 13% and leafiness 45%, which is 10–15% higher than the standard variety "Krasnokutsky". These parameters make the variety particularly valuable for the feed base.
The variety "Rostovsky 10" has high resistance to desertification processes and is capable of forming long-term agrophytocenoses on degraded pastures, ensuring stable production of quality feed. It is widely distributed in steppe and forest-steppe regions, where it is valued as a reliable food source for livestock.
