Crested Wheatgrass MODUN

Survival of the Fittest: The Role of 'Modun' Crested Wheatgrass

In regions facing severe weather patterns and drought-prone soils, the efficiency of forage production hinges on selecting the right genetic material. 'Modun', a crested wheatgrass variety developed by the Yakut Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is engineered for resilience rather than high-maintenance yield.

Practical Implementation on the Farm

The primary advantage of 'Modun' is its longevity. Once established, it creates a robust, deep-rooted sod that withstands intense grazing pressure. Farmers utilize this variety for:

• Establishing permanent pastures in arid zones where typical grasses fail to recover.
• Controlling soil erosion on sloped terrains through dense root architecture.
• Ensuring a reliable forage source in regions with short growing seasons and harsh winters.

Economic Efficiency

'Modun' is a low-input solution. Its ability to thrive in poor soils with minimal fertilizer application directly translates to a lower cost per ton of harvested hay. Because it effectively suppresses weed competition, it significantly reduces the need for chemical interventions. For operations managing remote fields, 'Modun' acts as a self-sustaining asset, offering decades of productive utility without the need for constant reseeding. This makes it an essential component for any farm focusing on long-term sustainability and forage security.
