Agropyron «Boyarin» is a variety of Siberian agropyron (Agropyron sibiricum) intended for mowing-pasture use and lawns. The bush is upright, dense, 100–110 cm high, with a straight, round stem of medium roughness without pubescence. Leaves are narrow-linear, flat, and hairless: smooth on the underside, rough on top, green in color, without a waxy coating. The inflorescence is a compound spikelet of linear-oval shape, 9–11 cm long, with medium looseness; spikelets are inverted-oval shape of light brown color.
The variety is characterized by good winter hardiness and drought resistance, allowing it to grow successfully on neutral and slightly saline soils. The vegetation period is 60–65 days until hay harvest and 122–127 days for seed collection. Yield is average: green mass – 330 ц/га, hay – 113 ц/га, seeds – 7.4 ц/га. Seeds are lanceolate shape, 5–6 mm long, weighing 1.9 g per 1000 pieces.
For cultivation, it is recommended to sow a pure rate of 15–18 кг/га (or 10–12 кг/га with wide-row sowing), planting depth – 2–3 cm. Agropyron «Boyarin» can grow in one place for more than 15 years, reaching maximum yields in the first 4–5 years of life. It goes well with alfalfa and other grasses, serving as a predecessor for cereal crops, especially wheat. Fertilizers: at main plowing, apply 45–60 кг P₂O₅, 30–45 кг K₂O and 30–50 кг N.
