DescriptionKRASNOKUTSKY WIDE-EARED 4
The speltgrass variety "Krasnokutsky wide-eared 4" was bred at the Krasnokutskaya Selection and Experimental Station of the NIISh of the South-East and received official recognition in 1943. It is characterized by high productivity both in terms of green mass and seeds, as well as excellent drought and heat resistance. Thanks to these properties, the variety is widely used in the fields of Volgograd, Voronezh, Orenburg, Penza, Samara, and Ulyanovsk regions and in the Kalmykia republic.
Botanically, "Krasnokutsky wide-eared 4" belongs to the corymbose type with a wide ear. Ears reach a length of about 6.5 cm and have a light-green coloration at flowering, turning light-yellow upon maturation. Seeds are small (length 0.4 cm), linear-lanceolate in shape, which promotes good assimilation of feed by livestock.
The variety differs not only in high yield: it outperforms standard varieties by 13–15% in green mass and seeds, and also provides higher quality hay. In addition, "Krasnokutsky wide-eared 4" is resistant to trampling by livestock under grazing use and does not make special demands on soils, making it a universal choice for farmers seeking to increase the productivity and quality of feed resources.
