Description ROSS 209 MV
Hybrid corn ROSS 209 MV is a medium-early double-row hybrid with a vegetative period of 100-110 days, corresponding to FAO 280. Plants reach a height of 220-230 cm and have a non-branching growth type. The cylindrical ear contains 16-18 rows of kernels, each row with 40-42 semi-oval yellow kernels. The 1000-kernel weight is approximately 330 grams, and the grain yield upon threshing reaches 82%. The ear stalk may be white or red, and the ear attachment height is 80-90 cm. The hybrid is versatile in use and can be grown for grain or silage depending on the climatic zone. ROSS 209 MV demonstrates high yields for both grain and silage mass. In the Central Chernozem region, silage mass yield reaches 480 centners per hectare, and under irrigation and optimal moisture conditions — more than 77 centners of dry grain per hectare. For maximum productivity, the hybrid is recommended to be sown after winter crops, peas, or potatoes with the use of half-moisture soil treatment. The optimal plant population is 50-55 thousand per hectare on dry land and 65-70 thousand per hectare under irrigation, corresponding to seed rates of 18-20 kg/ha and 23-25 kg/ha respectively. When sown for silage, an earlier sowing date and higher seeding rate are permitted. The hybrid tolerates herbicide treatments such as Titus, Basis, Harness, and Harmony, at recommended doses. It exhibits remontant properties, whereby ear moisture reaches harvest maturity while stalks and leaves remain green. ROSS 209 MV is successfully grown in various regions of Russia, including central and southern areas, confirming its adaptability and versatility. This hybrid’s corn is a high-calorie feed widely used in livestock production for producing quality milk and meat, making it an economically beneficial and easy-to-cultivate product.
