Legion 400 is a midline hybrid of corn of simple type with grain and silage usage directions, developed by breeders of MAIS. The hybrid belongs to the medium-late maturity group with FAO 400 and is suitable for cultivation in all climatic zones of Ukraine, including steppe areas, forest-steppe, and Polissia. In steppe and forest-steppe zones, it is recommended for grain-silage production, while in Polissia — primarily for silage production. The vegetative period lasts from 120 to 126 days depending on the region of cultivation.
The Legion 400 hybrid is characterized by high yield: grain yield varies from 104.9 to 161.9 c/ha, and silage yield — from 380 to 910 c/ha in different regions. Plants reach an average height of about 260 cm, and ears are attached at a height of approximately 110 cm. Grain has a dentiform shape and a rich yellow color, with the number of rows of kernels on the ear ranging from 14 to 16. The hybrid exhibits good germination, high uniformity, moderate growth energy in early stages, and no tendency to lodging at all development stages. In addition, it has moderate moisture loss rate during ripening.
Legion 400 is resistant to adverse temperature conditions, tolerates both spring cooling and summer heat well. The hybrid is relatively insensitive to drought and water deficit, and has high tolerance to major corn diseases such as helminthosporiosis, powdery mildew, and bacterial blight. It is not susceptible to insect pests and responds well to various agronomic treatment methods. The hybrid is adapted to resource-saving and energy-efficient cultivation technologies, making it a profitable choice for modern agricultural enterprises.
