Maize Legioner

'Legioner': A Food-Grade Standard from SGI

The 'Legioner' corn variety, developed by the Breeding and Genetics Institute (National Center for Seed Science and Cultivar Research), occupies a specific niche in the Ukrainian agricultural market. Unlike high-volume hybrids designed for animal feed or fuel production, 'Legioner' was bred specifically for the food industry. Its development is rooted in the tradition of Ukrainian scientific plant breeding, focusing on grain quality and consistent organoleptic properties required for human consumption.

Strategic Value for Food Processors

The primary advantage of 'Legioner' is its specialization. It is optimized for the production of grits, flour, and breakfast cereals. Food processors rely on this variety because of its balanced chemical profile, which ensures high efficiency during the milling and processing stages. For farmers, this means cultivating a product that meets strict industrial requirements, transforming grain into a reliable commodity for the food chain.

Market Reputation and Performance

In the landscape of modern agriculture, 'Legioner' is recognized as a time-tested solution. The SGI breeding approach emphasizes adaptability to local climatic conditions, ensuring that growers receive stable yields with the desired technological grain characteristics. It remains a preferred choice for producers who prioritize quality and need a dependable supply of maize for value-added food processing, ensuring consistency from the field to the consumer's table.
