• Smut diseases: High resistance to both common (boil) smut and loose smut, which is critical for maintaining ear integrity during the maturation phase.
• Pest pressure: Targeted breeding efforts against onion stalk smut and defense mechanisms against the European corn borer allow for minimal biomass loss during pest outbreaks.
