Cherkasyi 227 MV

The hybrid corn Cherkasyi 227 MV is a mid-early variety with FAO 227, developed by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the NAS and Cherkasy DSDDN of the "IZ NAN" Scientific Center. It has been included in the Ukrainian Plant Variety Register since 2020. The growing period of the hybrid ranges from 111 to 116 days depending on the climatic zone, allowing its use in various regions of the country, including Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia. Plant height reaches 220-250 cm, and large conical-cylindrical ears form at a height of 70-80 cm, fully covered by husks and containing 14-16 rows of yellow dent kernels with red cobs.

Cherkasyi 227 MV exhibits high resistance to adverse environmental factors. It shows cold tolerance, resistance to lodging and breakage, and good drought tolerance. The hybrid is resistant to diseases such as blister and smut, root rots, fusarium, and gummy mold, and also displays tolerance to corn borer. Due to the morphological structure of the ear, it ensures rapid moisture release, facilitating harvest and grain storage.

This grain-oriented hybrid demonstrates high ecological plasticity and stable yields under various climatic conditions. It responds well to mineral fertilizer application and is suitable for early planting. Yield at standard grain moisture (14%) reaches 6.39 t/ha in Steppe, 9.68 t/ha in Forest-Steppe, and 6.83 t/ha in Polissia, with some test sites exceeding 11 t/ha. Cherkasyi 227 MV is a promising choice for farmers aiming to achieve high and stable corn yields.
