Description

CDC KERMIT is a variety of small green lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) belonging to traditional types. It is characterized by a medium-maturing vegetative period of 66 to 84 days and medium plant height reaching 25–61 cm. The seeds are small, convex, yellow-green in color without a pattern; the mass of 1000 seeds is 25–35 g.

The variety is distinguished by good yield: in the central black-earth region it gives about 21.3 c/ha, and in trials in the Kursk region – up to 48.1 c/ha. At the same time, protein content reaches 26.3 %. Kermit is resistant to lodging, shedding, and drought at the level of standards, but is not tolerant to imidazolinone herbicides.

For cultivation, early sowing is recommended upon soil warming to 5–6 °C. Sowing rate – 200–220 pieces/m². Optimal conditions include a moderate climatic zone with more than 100 days of positive temperatures, clay and loam soils, as well as total rainfall in the range of 150–250 mm per season. The variety is well suited as a predecessor for grain crops, while maintaining a smooth field surface and using phosphorus-potassium fertilizers (40 kg/ha) or diammonium phosphate before sowing is important.

CDC KERMIT shows good resistance to ascochitosis and anthracnose, however, upon application of imidazolinone herbicides, plants may be suppressed. For weed control, it is preferable to use soil herbicides with half the dosage, for example, the composition S-Metolachlor 0.8 l/ha and Prometryn 2 l/ha.
