Lentil variety "Brilliant" (Lens culinaris Medik.) – medium-late variety with a vegetative period of 77‑81 days. Plants are of medium height, reaching 30–65 cm, have elongated-oval leaflets and white flowers with a blue vein. The entire crop is characterized by anthocyanin coloration of seedlings, which indicates high antioxidant properties.
Seeds are large, green, patternless, while cotyledons are yellow. The mass of 1000 seeds is 66‑75 g, protein content reaches up to 25.2%. High resistance to shattering and drought makes the variety suitable for cultivation in the Middle Volga, Lower Volga and Ural regions. In the Penza region, in 2020, a maximum yield of 22.8 c/ha was recorded.
"Brilliant" is recommended for cultivation in Saratov region and the Republic of Bashkortostan. It outperforms the standard variety "Nevesta" by 3.8 c/ha in the Middle Volga region and reaches a yield above the standard Vekhovskaya 1 (19.0 c/ha) in the Ural region. Thanks to moderate resistance to lodging and high endurance under adverse conditions, this variety ensures a stable crop output even under limited resources.
