Description

The cherry and sour cherry variety 'White Cranes' is a seedling of a cultural variety, selected by marker traits and entered into the State Register in 2001. The tree is dwarf with a corymbose crown of medium density, having straight and thick shoots. Leaves are of medium size with scalloped margins and large yellow glands. Flowers are white, saucer-shaped with petals that may be free or touching, and the stigma is at the same level or above the anthers. Fruiting occurs on one-year-old shoots. Fruits of the 'White Cranes' variety are large, broadly rounded with a dark red apex, average weight about 5.2 grams and up to 7.2 grams. Flesh and juice are dark red in color, flesh density is medium. The peduncle is very long, reaching 64 mm, medium thickness and strongly thickened at the calyx. Pit is oval, light brown, weighs 0.36 grams, constitutes about 7.4% of the fruit weight and separates from the flesh to a medium degree. Fruit taste is evaluated as juicy and universal, with sugar content of 8.8%, acids 1.7% and ascorbic acid 17.2 mg per 100 grams. The variety is characterized by late flowering and ripening, entering fruit-bearing in the third year after planting. It is self-sterile, therefore for pollination it is recommended to use varieties 'Turgenevka', 'Octava' and 'Kizilova'. Resistance to diseases such as cockle and moniliosis is evaluated as medium. Average yield of the variety reaches 37 hundredweight per hectare, maximum – 46 hundredweight per hectare.
