Ksenia

Cherry variety "Ksenia" is a high-yielding, medium-sized tree with a spreading, round crown. This variety was developed in Ukraine at the Artemovsk Experimental Station through open pollination of "Nord Star" and "Valeriy Chkalov" varieties by breeders K.I. Taranko, O.A. Kyschak, and V.O. Yarushnikov. Trees begin bearing fruit on the 3rd-4th year after planting and are characterized by high frost resistance, drought tolerance, and good resistance to fungal diseases such as coccomyces and moniliosis, making the variety low-maintenance.

The fruits of cherry "Ksenia" are large, weighing 7-10 grams, dark red in color with a flat-round or slightly elongated shape. The flesh is intensely red, dense, and very juicy, with an excellent sour-sweet taste rated around 4.7 out of 5. The stone is small and easily separates from the flesh. The juice of the fruits stains intensely, which should be considered when using them. In terms of taste, the fruits are less sour than the popular "Lutovka" variety.

Variety "Ksenia" is partially self-fertile, so for good fruit set, it is recommended to have pollinators such as cherry varieties "Lyubskaya" and "Nord Star" or plum varieties "Donchanka" and "Nежность". To obtain large and high-quality berries, favorable soil conditions are required; otherwise, yield may decrease or the tree may drop fruit. The fruits are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing into jams, juices, and compotes.
