Kordia

Cherry variety Kordia — a late-ripening variety developed in the Czech Republic, distinguished by large, beautiful, and tasty fruits. The berries have a heart-shaped form, dark red, almost black color with brown or pomegranate speckles, weighing from 8 to 13 grams and diameter of about 28-30 mm. The fruit skin is dense and shiny, covered with light spots, the flesh is dark red, dense, juicy, and aromatic, with an excellent balanced taste combining sweetness and acidity. The fruits detach easily from the pit, which is especially appreciated by cherry lovers. Sugar content reaches 17° Brix, providing a pleasant sweetness without excess. Thanks to its dense skin and resistance to cracking, the berries withstand transportation well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks without quality loss.

Kordia variety trees are medium-sized, with a spreading, spherical crown, reaching a height of 4-5 meters, with active growth observed in the first years after planting. Fruit-bearing begins on the 3rd-4th year after planting, with high yield — up to 20-50 kg of berries per tree. Flowering occurs in April-May, and harvesting starts in the second decade of July and lasts for 10 days, allowing longer enjoyment of fresh fruit. For successful pollination, it is recommended to plant pollinator varieties such as Summit, Van, Burlat, Regina, and others. Trees require preventive treatments against pests and diseases, as disease resistance is moderate.

Kordia cherry is not only delicious but also beneficial: berries are rich in vitamins and minerals, especially iron and potassium, making them useful in cases of anemia and hypertension. Berries are consumed fresh, as well as used for making compotes and juices. The variety is characterized by high frost resistance — mature trees withstand temperatures down to -24 degrees Celsius, while young saplings require protection during the first four years. The lifespan of the trees is about 20 years. Due to its qualities and reliability, the Kordia variety is widely used in industrial cultivation and is popular among gardeners and dacha owners.
