Cherries of the Cosmic variety are a late-ripening, mid-season variety developed in 1951 by crossing the varieties Priusadебnyy and Skorosoyuz. The tree is large, fast-growing, with a pyramidal, spreading crown of medium density. It fruits on bouquet branches and one-year shoots, starting from the fourth year of life, ensuring stable and high yields. The variety is recommended for both commercial and amateur gardening in steppe and forest-steppe zones due to its adaptability and resistance to adverse conditions. Cosmic cherry fruits have an oval-heart shape and weigh 6-10 grams. The skin is thin, tough, yellow-orange with a bright red blush covering most of the fruit surface. The flesh is creamy, juicy, and slightly fibrous, with an excellent wine-sweet taste, rated 4.75-5 points. The juice is colorless, and the fruits exhibit good resistance to cracking even in rainy weather. The stone is medium-sized, oval, and semi-free, facilitating flesh separation. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, drought resistance, and resistance to diseases such as moniliosis and coccomycosis. Fruits ripen in Melitopol from June 21 to 25 and have universal uses: they are consumed fresh and also used in processing. The chemical composition of the fruits includes 17.69% dry matter, 12.72% sugars, 0.67% organic acids, and 9.02 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams of fresh weight, making them not only delicious but also nutritious.
