Mica is a high-yielding early-ripening cherry variety, developed by Ukrainian breeders at the Donetsk Research Station for Fruit Growing. This cherry-plum hybrid combines the best qualities of both species, reflected in a medium-sized tree with a wide-oval crown. The fruits are flat-round, dark red or burgundy in color, weighing about 9-10 grams. The flesh is tender, juicy, sweet, with a distinct plum-cherry aroma, sometimes with a slight hint of acidity. The taste rating reaches 4.7 out of 5.
The variety ripens in the first or last decade of June, making it one of the earliest representatives of cherry crops. Yield is stable and high; the tree begins to bear fruit from the 3rd to 4th year after planting. Fruits keep well for up to one week in the refrigerator. Mica is self-sterile, so for pollination, it is recommended to plant nearby varieties with an intermediate flowering period, such as Donetsk Krasavitsa, Napoleon Rosa, or Chernivaya Rannaya.
The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to complex fungal diseases, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under various climatic conditions. Trees have a branching structure closer to plum, which facilitates care and harvesting. Due to its taste qualities, early ripening, and resilience, Mica is a valuable variety for gardeners seeking quality and delicious fruits.
